Ways to Help Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

By Compiled by Stephanie Duhon, Publisher August 30, 2017

Hurricane Harvey is continuing to wreak havoc on Texas. After coming ashore near Rockport, TX over the weekend as a Category 4 storm, it has moved very slowly, dumping so much rain in the Houston area that homes and roads are quickly flooding. The situation rapidly turned catastrophic and residents are in need for relief and help.

Here are some organizations where you can donate to help in relief efforts. Most charities prefer monetary donations to get help out the quickest:

United Way of Greater Houston: The
organization said its focus is on basic needs like food and shelter and
then it will turn to long-term recovery efforts. Donate to their relief
 fund here.

American Red Cross: You can donate through their website or text the word HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10. Volunteers and blood donations are also needed.

Global Giving:
This is a crowdfunding site that has set out to raise $2 million. These
funds will "exclusively support local relief and recovery efforts from
this storm."

SPCA of Texas: The SPCA has taken in animals affected by the storm. Any donations will help assist in the care of these animals.

Locally, The Bridge Church has an option on their giving fund to give directly to Hurricane Harvey Relief. When you click on the link, just select Hurricane Harvey Relief as the giving type.
