Our Family's Top 5 Favorite Board Games

Perfect for Preschool and Young Elementary-Aged Kids

Being cooped up indoors a lot this week after getting snow on Monday means getting creative with things to do. While we did spend a lot of time enjoying the snow, I'm not a fan of the cold, so we also spent a lot of time inside the house!

One of our favorite things to do as a family is play board games. My 7-year-old loves them and it's a great way to have family time and help her learn important concepts at the same time. My 3-year-old enjoys them too, although she usually just "assists" one of us since she loses interest a bit quicker as some of the games are aimed at kids a little older.

Even though the snow has mostly melted, we are still in the middle of winter, so I wanted to share our top 5 board games in case you are looking for something different to do the next time you find yourselves indoors for a long period of time!

1. Scrabble Junior

This is one of my personal favorites to play because I love words and spelling. Scrabble Junior is a great game to help my first grader practice reading and spelling skills. The game has two levels, which is perfect as her vocabulary and confidence grows.

2. Clue Junior

Critical thinking and remembering moves you've already made are key to this game and solving the mystery. My 7-year-old loves this game because she loves searching for clues.

3. Monopoly Junior

My daughter always wants to be the banker for Monopoly Junior so she can count all of the money! This game is great for enhancing math skills.

4. Hi-Ho Cherry-O

This is one my 3-year-old sticks around for and loves to play. It's easy for preschoolers and helps them with colors, counting and sorting.

5. Jenga

We love this game - often my 3-year-old will build it and immediately knock it down!
