Veteran's Day Events Around Rutherford County

Veterans Day, which celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, is coming up and Rutherford County has several events planned to honor veterans in the area.

Veterans Day Ceremony - Smyrna

In 1918, the Armistice with Germany went into effect ending the First World War. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month Armistice Day is recognized in countries throughout the world. In 1954, Armistice Day became Veterans Day in the United States to honor the veterans of all wars. Be a part of the 100th anniversary event as we hold this year's event at the site of the Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial.  The Stewarts Creek High School Brass Choir will perform and there be a wreath-laying ceremony. It promises to be a great way to honor our veterans.

Military Appreciation Day at the Nashville Zoo

Nashville Zoo at Grassmere

Nashville Zoo and Regions Bank invite active military personnel, military veterans and their immediate families to receive free admission during Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, November 11. Military Appreciation Day is offered in gratitude for the commitment, bravery and sacrifices made by those who serve our country. In addition to regular Zoo activities, a special children’s fun zone will be set up on Festival Field with bounce houses, games and activities, as well as free rides on the Wild Animal Carousel and Wilderness Express Train. The Grassmere Historic Home will be open to visitors on this day. A collection of military items will be on display downstairs and on the back porch of the house. Visitors must show their military ID, veteran organization ID, discharge papers or other official military identification to be given free admission. If not accompanied by military personnel, dependents must have official dependent ID cards to receive the discounted admission. Please note: The normal parking fee  will still apply.

Murfreesboro Veterans Day Memorial Service
November 12 - 11 a.m.
Murfreesboro Square

The Murfreesboro Veterans Day Service is set for November 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The service is held each year on the Murfreesboro Square on the corner near the War Memorial monument at the Rutherford County Courthouse.
