A National Day for The Best Food Ever - Peanut Butter - is January 24!

By Crystal Hoffman January 19, 2020

I don’t know about you, but I am sincerely grateful that there is a day just for peanut butter to be celebrated.  In my family, peanut butter is almost as important as oxygen.  My husband puts that stuff on everything (yes, I get the pun here and I agree that Jiffy totally missed out on that opportunity).  Peanut butter is extremely versatile in its uses.  You have your traditional PB&J sandwiches, peanut butter no-bakes, peanut butter smoothies, ants on a log, and dinner dishes made with peanut butter among many other delectable items.

But did you know that peanut butter has so many functions other than to be eaten??

In honor of National Peanut Butter Day (Jan. 24) and just because I’m feeling quirky, I’ve found some unique ways to use peanut butter.   Try ‘em out and let us know how they work (or don’t)!

Disclaimer: Some of these ideas may be a bit sketchy, but it’s all in fun.

  1. Use a peanut butter to get gum out of a carpet or hair (though, you’ll later have to clean up the peanut butter mess).
  2. Go fishing with peanut butter as bait.
  3. DIY Ant traps - 2 tsp of peanut butter, ½ tsp of baking soda, 1 tsp of Borax (don’t use around pets)
  4. DIY bird feeder - slather peanut butter onto a pinecone and sprinkle on some bird seed.
  5. Lubrication for garden tools
  6. Pot/pan cleaner - takes out fishy smells from pots and pans after making fish.
  7. Glue remover - rub hands with peanut butter to remove stubborn glue.
  8. Hair moisturizer - lather up on the scalp and hair.
  9. Flavoring for… wait for it… ANYTHING!

On January 24, as you make your kiddos PB&J’s or slather the peanut butter onto your toast, take a minute to recognize how truly beautiful life is with peanut butter.
