Read Across America Day is March 2!

By Crystal Hoffman, Murfreesboro Macaroni Kid February 24, 2020

Did you know that, according to ortongillinghamonlinetutor.com, “50% of adults cannot read a book written at an eighth-grade level and 45 million are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level”?  Somewhat alarming, isn’t it??  The trend of illiteracy begins in the earliest years when our children are just beginning how to read.  So, a day committed to fighting illiteracy is fitting for a society that needs it.

Read Across America Day (formerly Dr. Seuss Day) is March 2, 2020.  In honor of this newly titled day, my children and I have chosen a few books for you and your family to read together.  These are some of our absolute favorites that we have read over and over again.

Young Children Picks

“Eating the Alphabet” by Lois Ehlert

“Little Critter: The Classics” by Mercer Meyer      {Admittedly, this is my favorite!}

“Ten Apples Up On Top” by Dr. Seuss
